Sucks Having No Power

This isn't about politics, but electricity. We lost power Friday afternoon, just minutes before we were considering ordering groceries. Normally I'd go early in the morning, on a weekend, but we'd run out earlier than expected. We were trying to be frugal and NOT order from our usual food places. With the power out for four hours, we caved and ordered pizza, on the off chance it was still available elsewhere and we'd get it whenever. Pizza came, power actually flickered on for a good thirty minutes or so, and dropped with a series of snap, crackle, pops somewhere outside. A busted transformer, was my assumption. The power was out all night, meaning we had to toss some perfectly good food. To add to the frustration, it was low twenties that day and weekend. We've been shivering and layering up to stay warm. We filled the bathtub with hot water to help (yes, we had hot water; the apartment covers that), both in terms of heating and humidity. A frustrating part of that night was the total lack of power in the building when we first lost it. The halls were dark, meaning the backup generator was down. But once the power briefly came back, the generator kicked in and provided some electricity. We were able to charge our phones and power banks, but not comfortably. Our neighbors had extension cords and/or had better access to the outlets. We had to buy a proper one the next day, so we could charge everything from the privacy of our apartment. We bought shelf stable food to last us the weekend, and ordered warm food and drinks to fight off the cold. For the last three days, we watched as our electric company continued to move the goal posts. We stayed up Saturday night, excited to see the lights flicker on. My girlfriend slept in the living room because they wanted to feel the first rays of heat (lmao). Of course we learned that the other buildings had heat, and we alone did not. I am so frustrated. At least I've got my books and games to keep me preoccupied, but I want to write. I planned on catching up on writing one of my serials this weekend. But I can't because it's so damn cold, and I can't reliably charge my laptop. I don't even trust our power to be on by Monday night. And we are slated for more snow and lower temps soon! Just sucks all around. I wish we had solar power!!
