Last Thoughts On LoveChoice
Note: There will be spoilers. If you'd rather play the game yourself, do so.
Finishing up LoveChoice, a game I started last month and enjoyed...the first story, at least. There are three stories in total, with the second tackling a long distance relationship. Something I am very familiar with; all my relationships have been long distance, started and often ending online. Current relationship excluded.
This second story is Love - Distance and centered on childhood friends. The girl, Grace, goes to school overseas in the US, to pursue her dream as a musician who ultimately plays in an orchestra. And none of these endings are happy, but the closest, in my opinion, is So Far, So Close.
The third ending has them get together, but was a massive downgrade for Grace. She got guilt tripped into coming home by Stan (your roots are here, don't you miss your parents, etc). And you clearly see she's unhappy teaching piano lessons, and Stan is unhappy because he's stuck working in his dad's factory, instead of making his own chips or whatever.
So Close, So Far is an ending that just left me feeling slimy.
However, I was relieved to get that happy ending I sought in Love - Detective. It was actually very sweet, an anniversary themed scavenger hunt. No ick to be had!
And yeah, I can understand the need to show the imperfect couple. That's just life for most people. It's just not something I seek in a game about love and romance. I mostly read and watch horror, but even I need a break from that.
